Description

Shropshire Women’s Institute enamel badge in very good condition. This badge was produced circa 1920 by Vaughtons Birm for members of Shropshire Women’s Institute. The WI was created in Ontario, Canada to involve wives of the local Farmer’s Institute. The idea spread to Great Britain in 1915 to encourage women to help the war effort by producing more food and to bring new life to rural communities.

The Shropshire Women’s Institute (WI) is a longstanding organization with a rich history in the English county of Shropshire. Established in 1917 as part of the Women’s Institute movement, it has focused on empowering women through education and skill development. The Shropshire WI actively participates in community initiatives and charity work, while also providing support for various causes. It promotes healthy lifestyles, cultural preservation, and fellowship among its members, fostering lasting connections. As it adapts to modern times, the organization remains a vital part of Shropshire’s social fabric, exemplifying the enduring impact of women’s empowerment and community involvement.
